Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of therapy that relies on the premise that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors. For instance the thought "I'm not good enough" may cause someone to feel depressed and avoid trying new things. Sometimes when a person is very depressed they need to see some improvement quickly and also desire to have specific exercises that they can work on outside of therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be useful for quick symptom relief. The homework assignments that are included in the process give clients guidance about how to work on improving their symptoms outside of therapy. At Shannon Deets Counseling, there are two manners in which we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

1)We use cognitive behavioral therapy in its more traditional format as a stand alone therapy.

2) We use cognitive behavioral techniques to provide quick symptom relief and pair these techniques with other therapy styles to help clients incorporate insight into learning about additional causes of their symptoms.
